Episode Description
Dave and Jon are here with some breaking news concerning the upcoming 2020 test administrations, including the just-announced cancellation of the March exam. They deconstruct LSAC’s statement on that test, discussing how they expect the coronavirus pandemic will affect other tests and how law schools are likely to react to this unprecedented situation.
Episode Timestamps
- 0:00 – Intro. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVE! With an episode focusing on speed, Jon pours two versions of a Speedy Gonzales and Dave slows it down with a tropical Lava Flow. The music is from a band Dave recently met, Starcrawler, and the song is Bet My Brains.
- 6:46 – This week in the LSAT world. How is coronavirus affecting upcoming LSATs? How is PowerScore preparing for it? What is going to happen with the March test specifically?
- 15:14 – Logic Games speed introduction. This episode will focus on study habits and broader, foundational preparation steps to take before diving into actual strategic diagramming approaches on a later episode.
- 16:30 – Knowledge is key. Make sure you know the common game types, basic setups, frequently-appearing rules, and common inferences to the point where recognition is second nature.
- 27:55 – Flash memorize the rules. It can be done with practice! And try this exercise: diagram the game, then remove the text of the game and see if your setup allows you to reconstruct the original scenario/rules.
- 33:26 – Repetition = speed. Don’t put a game to the side just because you’ve already done it once. Make sure to repeat games until you can do them without a hitch.
- 36:41 – Perfecting games. It’s not enough to just get it right “under time,” it’s the ability to pick up a previously-completed game and work through it without any hesitation or uncertainty. And keep in mind that going fast requires going slow: to be fast, you have to first be able to do it slowly, so feel free to not worry about the clock and practice untimed!
- 46:18 – Revisiting games. Even if you’ve previously perfected a game, revisit it to stay sharp and make sure you are still on top of whatever concepts you were focusing on at the time.
- 47:09 – Consider where time is being spent/lost in all parts of a game: scenario analysis, setup/diagram, questions. Learn the areas that give you the most trouble!
- 54:40 – Don’t get down if improvement isn’t immediate. It takes time, and a lot of hard work!!
- 58:14 – Outro.
